Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has discussed the agenda of the forthcoming G8 and G20 summits in a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Kremlin has said.

"While discussing G20 activities, Medvedev and Harper touched upon the problems of global financial regulation and the reformation of international financial institutions, and also exchanged their evaluations of the crisis in the Eurozone and measures aimed at overcoming it," a statement issued by the Kremlin said.

The two sides' positions on the issues were close, it said.

The Russian president supported Harper's proposals on measures to be taken to reduce maternal and infant mortality in developing countries, as well as on steps aimed at improving the educational levels in the African states. Both issues are to be discussed during the G8 summit due in Canada's Huntsville on June 25-27. The G20 summit will take place in Toronto on June 26-27.

Medvedev and Harper also discussed the Russian-Canadian cooperation on a range of international issues during their conversation, which was initiated by the Canadian side, the statement said.
