Russian car-producing region Chelyabinsk is hosting a meeting with the Japan Association for Trade with Russia and New Independent States (ROTOBO) on cooperation in car production, the region's Deputy Governor said on Thursday.
"Producing cars and car components could be a promising area of cooperation between the region and Japan. We have a good competitive advantage in this area: a high concentration of metallurgy and car producing plants in one place," Yury Klepov said.
Klepov said the region also has a good logistical location.
"We have connections with all areas of Russia. We are also close to the Kazakh border so can also supply our products there," Klepov said.
"We have the experience and spheres of work, but we need technologies and partners. We can always find sales markets," he added
The head of the ROBOTO delegation said the association is interested in cooperation with Chelyabinsk, although the region is still relatively unknown in Japan.
"The region is not very well known in Japan, but meetings like this allow us to learn more about it and work out areas of cooperation," Takashi Nisioka said.
