Estonian President Toomas Henrik Ilves was evacuated from his residence in downtown Tallinn on Wednesday night over a bomb threat, local police said.

An unidentified person called a police station and said that a bomb was planted in the presidential residence and would go off in half an hour. The president was evacuated immediately after the call.

Police said the bomb threat was false as law enforcers and sappers searched the presidential palace and found no explosive device. They added that the suspected caller had already been detained.

The Estonian Criminal Code envisages a considerable fine or a five-year prison term for false bomb threats.
