Manuel Zelaya, former president of Honduras, has visited Cuba and met with Cuban leader Raul Castro, local media reported.

Saturday issue of Communist party newspaper Granma showed a picture of Zelaya and Castro sitting together at a table, but did not disclose the issues discussed during their meeting on Friday.

Zelaya was ousted as president in a coup on June 28 last year over efforts to seek an unconstitutional second presidential term. He returned to the country on September 21 and took refuge in the Brazilian Embassy.

Porfirio Lobo of the Honduran opposition National Party won elections in late November.

Zelaya left Honduras with his family for exile in the Dominican Republic in January 2010 and has been recently appointed to head the newly established political council of the Caribbean oil alliance, Petrocaribe.

Honduran authorities said in March that Zelaya would be allowed to freely return to his homeland and would not face political persecution.
