The Russian national hockey team has advanced to the next stage of the 2010 world ice-hockey championship in Germany winning all three games in the preliminary round.
Russia comfortably beat Belarus 3-1 on Thursday. Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored his third goal at the current tournament.
The defending champions previously defeated Slovakia 3-1 and Kazakhstan 4-1.
Russia have won the last two tournaments, but were disappointing at the recent Winter Olympics, were they were thrashed by hosts Canada in the last eight.
