The governor of the Moscow Region has given commendations and bonuses to medal-winning athletes from the 2010 Winter Olympics and their trainers, said authorities on Thursday.

The governor of the Moscow Region has given commendations and bonuses to medal-winning athletes from the 2010 Winter Olympics and their trainers, said authorities on Thursday.

Russia finished the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games with worse result when was expected, winning 15 medal - three golds, five silvers and seven bronzes finishing 11th in the overall table. 5 medals were won by Moscow Region athletes.

“We are generally satisfied with the results of Moscow Region athletes. They are motivated to demonstrate a good result at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games,” said Sergei Koshman, deputy head of the Moscow Region government.

Bobsledder Alexander Zubkov and skiers Irina Khazova and Alexei Petukhov, who each won bronze, were recognized by the Moscow Region governor with Glory of Sport commendations and given bonuses of 300,000 rubles ($11,000).
 
Skaters Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, who won the ice dance bronze, could not attend the ceremony due to competitive commitments but also received the awards. The athletes’ trainers were also rewarded for their work.

Russian paralympic athletes, who won 12 gold, 16 silver and 10 bronze medals, finishing second in the overall table after Germany, will also receive awards, Koshman said.
