MOSCOW, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - Air traffic in north and central Europe will not run for at least the next 24 hours because of the ash cloud from a volcano eruption in Iceland, Reuters quoted the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, Eurocontrol, as saying.

According to Eurocontrol data, the situation will continue for at least 24 hours. 6000 flights are expected on Saturday in European airspace, compared to the normal figure of 22 000.

The organization said forecasts show the cloud of volcanic ash will stay put and continue to affect airspace.

Airports in southern Europe including Spain, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, southern Italy and the southern parts of the Balkan countries will continue to operate.
