The World Expo 2010 fair in Shanghai is expected to expand Russian-Chinese cooperation in scientific research

The World Expo 2010 fair in Shanghai is expected to expand Russian-Chinese cooperation in scientific research, an expert with Russia's leading services corporation said on Friday.

The 2010 World Expo fair is to run from May 1 to October 31 under the motto "Better City - Better Life." Some 70 million visitors are expected to attend the event.

The exhibition will help "revise our policy in combining the potential of the two countries to implement joint scientific research projects," said Nikolai Mikhailov, an advisor for the chairman of AFK Sistema board of directors.

Mikhailov participated in the press conference Russia and China in the New International Environment held in RIA Novosti's information center in Beijing.

The conference is the second such event organized in the framework of the Russian-Chinese section of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

A professor and scientist with the Higher School of Economics, Ivan Ivanov, said the event focused on cooperation between Russia and China in developing non-conventional energy sources.

"China has made a step forward in developing solar and wind energy, while we [Russia] have our own technologies in developing ocean energy and biofuel," Ivanov said.

The participants of the event also stressed the importance of adopting a new treaty on climate change to replace the Kyoto Protocol and bring together the interests of Russia and China, he said.
