The Russians were second after the short program, but slipped to the third place in free skate as Kavaguti fell during quadruple and triple throws. As a result, the 2010 European Champions scored a total of 203.0 points and were third.

The front-runners of the competition, the Olympic silver medalists Qing Pang and Jian Tong (CHN), managed to retain the solid lead they had after the short program. They won the pairs gold with a result of 211.39 points.

The defending World Champions Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy were second with the result of 204.74 points.

Another Russian pair, Maria Mukhortova and Maxim Trankov were fourth, scoring a total of 197.39 points.
