Chief Palestinian presidential advisor Sahib Oreikat will discuss recent Israeli settlement activities at a meeting of Middle East mediators in Moscow on March 19, a Palestinian spokesman said on Tuesday.

Chief Palestinian presidential advisor Sahib Oreikat will discuss recent Israeli settlement activities at a meeting of Middle East mediators in Moscow on March 19, a Palestinian spokesman said on Tuesday.

"Oreikat is bringing a letter from the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmud Abbas, to Russian officials, explaining the Palestinian position on the state of affairs in Jerusalem and other Palestinian territories," the spokesman said.

The letter will be taken into consideration during the Quartet on the Middle East in Moscow scheduled on Friday.

The Israeli government has recently announced plans to build 1,600 new housing units for Jewish families in the disputed eastern area of Jerusalem. The announcement threatens to break down renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Ramallah threatened to discontinue the peace talks if the settlement building plans are not abandoned. U.S., Russian and European officials have called on Israel to halt the plans.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel will not suspend building in east Jerusalem, despite the obstacle it is creating to Middle East peace efforts.
