A three-month-old Scottish Fold cat was seized in south Russia's Krasnodar Territory over the debts of its owner, a court spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The debt of the cat's female owner, a resident of the town of Kropotkin, exceeded 90,000 rubles ($3,000), the spokeswoman said.

The seizure of the cat, the first case of its kind in the Krasnodar Territory, was sanctioned after a creditor turned to the court to get his money back.

The spokeswoman said the cat would be sold if the debt was not repaid within a period set by the court.

The price of a Scottish Fold cat ranges from $300 and above.

Earlier, court bailiffs in the Krasnodar Territory seized pigs, cows and calves over the debts of their owners.
