Andrei Markov, a member of the 2010 national Olympic hockey team, might miss the Winter Olympics due to an injury, Montreal Gazette said on Monday.

Markov, 31-year-old defender for Montreal Canadians, missed two recent NHL games due to "lower-body injury," the paper said in its online edition. He is to fly to Vancouver to join the Russian team in the next few hours.

"Canadiens team doctor David Mulder is among the NHL doctors who will be on hand in Vancouver to monitor Markov's progress and decide whether he can play in the Olympics," the paper said.

The final list of the national team is to be confirmed on Monday, a day prior to the opening of the Olympic Hockey tournament, and must not be changed afterwards.
