Slovakia's Anastazia Kuzmina brought her country first Olympic Vancouver gold medal after winning in Biathlon women's 7.5 km sprint on the first day of the Games in Canada.

Slovakia's Anastazia Kuzmina brought her country first Olympic Vancouver gold medal after winning in Biathlon women's 7.5 km sprint on the first day of the Games in Canada.

Although the rain turned the track at the Whistler Olympic Park into slush earlier in the day Kuzmina finished the distance with one missed shot in 19 minutes 55.6 seconds.

Germany's Magdalena Neuner also missed one shot at the distance and won silver, while Marie Dorin hit all her targets and won bronze losing almost 11 seconds to the winner of the sprint.

Russia's Anna Bulygina failed to snatch the bronze from the French biathlete finishing in the fourth place with less than two seconds behind Dorin.
