Russian rescuers saved three people from rubble in the quake-hit Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, the head of the rescue team told journalists on Sunday.

"We saved two girls and a woman, works are ongoing to rescue another woman," Salavat Mingaleyev said.

The woman was located when the group was already returning to the camp. Despite a statement by international security forces that they are unable to guarantee the safety of rescue workers at night, the rescue operation is ongoing.

Later in the day the Russian team would try to locate the Russian national, who worked in Port-au-Prince and was married to a Haitian woman. His wife said the man was likely to be under the rubble of their house.

"We do not rule out that he died, but probably he is alive and is still under rubble," he said.

Five people were rescued by the Russian team since rescue operations started in the devastated city.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday and almost leveled the country's capital of Port-au-Prince. A number of aftershocks followed. The most recent quake, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, was registered some 60 km (37 miles) to the south of Port-au-Prince late on Friday night.

According to the latest figures, some 140,000 were killed in the quake, 250,000 were injured, and more than 3 million have been left without shelter.
