Over 214,000 people in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan were left without gas supplies after a pipeline explosion, emergencies services said Wednesday.
An explosive device went off at a section of the Mozdok-Kazimagomed pipeline in Dagestan's Derbent region on Tuesday, causing a fire and halting supplies.
"A total of 104 inhabited localities remain without gas in five Dagestani regions, where 214,617 people, including over 50,000 children, live," an emergencies spokesman said.
Temperatures are plus 5-7 degrees Celsius. Some houses are heated with coal and firewood. Repair work is to be completed later in the day.
