The key suspect in the failed Christmas Day plane bombing said some 20 young men were being taught in Yemen to blow up airliners.

The key suspect in the failed Christmas Day plane bombing said some 20 young men were being taught in Yemen to blow up airliners, CBS News said on Sunday citing informed sources.

Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, tried to blow up an A330 jet bound from Amsterdam to Detroit and carrying some 300 people on December 25. Subdued by passengers and the crew, he was detained upon arrival in Detroit. Abdulmutallab had reportedly undergone training at an al-Qaeda camp in Yemen.

"I think the fact we know that there are other operatives being trained by al Qaeda in Yemen is extremely troubling, and is the most dangerous dimension to come out of the December 25th event," said CBS News national security analyst Juan Zarate.

The information might be behind the recent U.S. government's directive, which orders enhanced security checks for every passenger flying U.S.-bound flights from 14 countries, including Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen, the channel said.
