Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad begins on Monday his two-day official visit to Tajikistan.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad begins on Monday his two-day official visit to Tajikistan, a spokesman for the Tajik Foreign Ministry said.

Davlat Nazriyev said a number of intergovernmental economic agreements are expected to be signed during Ahmadinejad's visit.

He added that the visit of the Iranian leader will begin with a meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon in the 1+1 format.

Ahmadinejad is expected to visit a number of construction sites in Tajikistan, in which Iran is investing, including the site of the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant in the south of the Central Asian country.

The Sangtuda-2 plant, which Iranian and Tajik experts began building in 2006, is expected to generate a billion kilowatt/hour a year once the construction is completed.

The project also stipulates the construction of a high-voltage electricity transmission line to export energy from Tajikistan's Sangtuda to Iran via Afghanistan.

Under the agreement reached with Tajikistan, Iran will keep the profits from Sangtuda-2 for twelve and a half years, and then the plant will become Tajikistan's property.
