The death toll from a train collision in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state blamed on fog and a power failure has risen to 10, CNN reported.

The crash occurred near the Panki railway station in Kanpur on Saturday. An express rammed into another train, killing 10 people and injuring at least 42. The TV channel quoted a railway official as saying 19 of the injured were in critical condition.

Earlier, six people were reported killed and 25 injured in the accident.

The crash was one of three train accidents that occurred in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Two trains collided near the Sarai Bhuft station in the city of Etawah early in the morning, injuring 13 people. There were no deaths reported. A third accident took place near the city of Allahabad.

Fog disrupted at least 54 trains at the New Delhi railway station, where passengers remained stuck for several hours.

According to India's railway officials, the country had 117 train accidents in 2008-09, of which 80 were blamed on staff failures, CNN said. In 2007-08, 194 train crashes were recorded in India.
