India and Pakistan have officially exchanged the lists of their nuclear objects under a bilateral nuclear security deal, Pakistani and Indian media said on Friday.

India and Pakistan have officially exchanged the lists of their nuclear objects under a bilateral nuclear security deal, Pakistani and Indian media said on Friday.

The two nuclear powers share details on their nuclear installations on the first day of every year under an agreement, signed on December 31, 1988. The move is to prevent any attacks on such facilities.

“The lists were exchanged through diplomatic channels simultaneously at New Delhi and Islamabad under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities,” the Press Trust of India said, citing a statement by the External Affairs Ministry.

This was the 19th consecutive list exchange between the two countries.

The move came amid a chill in bilateral relations, which began after the November 26, 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

A “commando-style” raid by 10 gunmen on hotels and cafes in the Indian city of Mumbai killed 174 people and injured more than 300 over three days.

India earlier demanded that Islamabad prosecute the organizers of the attacks and eliminate terrorist groups acting against India, as a precondition for a resumption of dialogue on normalizing bilateral relations.
