Russian bobsledder Irina Skvortsova, seriously injured during a training incident in Germany, has been briefly brought out of induced coma, a spokeswoman for the Russian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation said Monday.

On November 23, Skvortsova received multiple fractures including to her hips and back when the Russian women's team tipped over in the sled and stopped, after which the Russian men's team crashed into them from behind at full speed on a bobsleigh track in Koenigssee.

"Today Skvortsova was brought out of coma; she spoke for the first time. She was told she had gotten into an accident, and she reacted adequately," Lyudmila Kozlova said.

"After a certain time she was induced into coma again," she said.

Kozlova also said Munich doctors had to perform an emergency operation on Monday after a blood clot began to move in Skvortsova's right leg which received the most serious injuries in the accident.

Doctors are unlikely to wake her up until muscle tissue transplantation is performed on the athlete's right leg.
