The Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow's Alexander Garden to honor the dead of the Great Patriotic War was temporarily relocated on Sunday due to repairs.

The Eternal Flame was moved early on Sunday to Poklonnaya Hill, a war memorial at Victory Park, where tanks and other military vehicles from World War II are on permanent display.

Vladimir Kozhin, head of the Kremlin property management administration, said on Friday that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had issued a special decree ordering the relocation and repairs, to be completed in time for the 65th anniversary of end of WWII.

The Eternal Flame is to be moved back into place by February 23, 2010.

The Eternal Flame of Glory was lit on May 8, 1967.
