Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has approved new rules on the sales and use of pyrotechnics more than two weeks after a deadly nightclub fire killed at least 150 people in the Urals.

The document bans indoor use of fireworks, as well as their use on rooftops and balconies.

"Pyrotechnics may not be sold to people under the age of 16, if no other age restrictions are specified by a manufacturer," the rules say.

The fire in the Lame Horse night club began after an indoor firework display went wrong, causing the wicker-decorated ceiling to catch fire. About 80 people remained in hospital as of December 19, with 20 in grave condition.
