Film director Roman Polanski, arrested in Switzerland in September on long-running child abuse charges, plans to sue three French publications for publishing photos of his family without permission.

AFP news agency said Polanski and his wife Emmanuelle Seigner are suing VSD and Voici magazines and Le Journal du Dimanche paper for publishing the photos, some of which show the couple's children.

Polanski says the images and accompanying articles invade the family's privacy.

The couple are seeking $155,000 in damages, and the case is scheduled to be heard in Paris on January 12, sources told the agency.

The Oscar-winning director, 76, best known for his films Rosemary's Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974), and the Pianist (2002), fled the U.S. in 1978 after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.

He was arrested on September 26 after arriving in Switzerland for the Zurich Film Festival.

On Monday, an appeals court in California rejected Polanski's request for his decades-old case to be dismissed or re-reviewed by the courts while he remains under house arrest in Switzerland
