A group of German doctors safely transported on Thursday injured Russian bobsledder Irina Skvortsova from a hospital in Traunstein to a clinic in Munich.

Doctors are trying to save the athlete's right leg, which was seriously injured in a training accident on November 23. They decided to take her to a plastic surgery clinic in Munich, as the Traunstein hospital lacks the necessary facilities.

"Irina was transported by helicopter to Munich. The flight lasted 20 minutes, and no incidents were reported," said Lyudmila Kozlova, a spokesperson for the Russian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation.

She added that Skvortsova's mother and brother have arrived in Munich, but have not yet been able to see Skvortsova, who in an induced coma.

The 21-year-old athlete was rushed to hospital with multiple broken bones, including her hips and back, following a training incident on a bobsleigh track in Konigssee. The Russian women's team tipped over in the sled and stopped, after which the Russian men's team crashed into them from behind at full speed.
