According to the latest emergencies ministry data, a total of 101 people were killed and 134 injured in the blaze in a packed cafe in the Urals city of Perm, while the regional administration says 102 people died.

The blaze occurred during a firework show late on Friday, apparently due to a breach of fire safety rules. The cafe burned out almost completely with fire spreading to the area of 400 square meters.

Over 220 people are believed to be inside the cafe when the tragedy occurred.

Some 130 people were injured, at least 85 of them are said to be in critical condition, suffering from severe inhalation burns and carbon monoxide poisoning. A total of 61 people are on a life support breathing machine.

An emergencies ministry plane with rescuers and doctors has recently landed in the city. Ten of the injured will be transported to Moscow soon.

Russia's emergencies minister, Sergei Shoigu, along with the health and social development minister, Tatyana Golikova and the interior minister, Rashid Nurgaliyev, have set off for Perm.

Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika assumed personal control over the investigation.
