The Arabic edition of the Moscow News paper, re-launched by RIA Novosti after a 17-year break, is designed to improve Russia's dialogue with the Arab world, the agency's chief editor said on Wednesday.

"It is important to turn communication with Arab audiences from monologue to dialogue," Svetlana Mironyuk said, speaking at a ceremony to launch the paper called Anbaa Mosku in Arabic. "We view the new version of the paper as a forum for debate."

The move is part of a new strategy the Russian government to step up relations with the Arab world. Mironyuk earlier said the "fog" covering Russian-Arab relations came from the fact that Arab nations "have been feeding on what the West has printed about Russia."

Mironyuk said the edition's online version would be launched soon.

"We plan to make Anbaa Mosku a successful commercial project," she said.

Anbaa Mosku editor Raed Jaber said the edition would "portray life in Russia, the political, economic and social situation there," and will feature articles on tourism, culture, science and technology.

The paper will be a monthly publication, with a circulation of 150,000 copies in 15 Arab countries and Israel. About a thousand copies will be circulated in Russia. If it proves a success, the paper could switch to weekly or even daily editions.
