Russian and U.S. officials agreed at talks in Moscow on Monday to carry out joint work in Afghanistan to prevent drug trafficking.

MOSCOW, November 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian and U.S. officials agreed at talks in Moscow on Monday to carry out joint work in Afghanistan to prevent drug trafficking.

The head of Russia's Federal Drug Control Service, Viktor Ivanov, met with Richard Holbrooke, President Barack Obama's special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"During the meeting, the sides agreed to step up joint work on conducting controlled deliveries of drugs from Afghanistan, through which drug trafficking channels can be intercepted," the Russian service said in a statement.

The results of joint work will be reported to a working group of the presidential commission set up by Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama earlier this year.
