ULYANOVSK, November 13 (RIA Novosti) - Railroad communication has been resumed after a fire triggered multiple explosions at a military depot in the city of Ulyanovsk in Russia's Volga Region on Friday.

One person died in the fire and following explosions and 35 are unaccounted for.

Ulyanovsk Region governor Sergei Morozov said 11 people were hospitalized after the blasts, two of them in serious condition. "About 20 people turned to medical facilities, 11 were hospitalized," he said, adding that he had no information on those killed.

Morozov also said over 3,000 people were evacuated from the nearby areas after explosions started at about 3:30 pm Moscow time (12:30 GMT) at the depot belonging to military enterprise 31st Arsenal.

According to the Russian Federal Security Service, the fire emerged during a controlled operation to destroy ammunition because "the set cycle was broken." The fire "entailed further blasts of ammunition," the service said.

Local railroad communication was suspended after the explosions. Morozov said the version of a terrorist attack was ruled out, adding that the fire will be fully extinguished by morning.

Ulyanovsk is located 900 km (560 miles) east of Moscow. Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin was born there.

An investigation is underway.
