WASHINGTON, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - The man suspected of a deadly shooting at a U.S. Army base in Texas has been charged with 13 counts of murder, an Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman said Thursday.

"U.S. Army Major Nadal Malik Hasan has been charged with 13 specifications of premeditated murder," Chris Grey told journalists.

Maj. Hasan, 39, an Army psychiatrist who reportedly was upset about his upcoming deployment to Afghanistan, is suspected of going on a shooting rampage at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, killing 13 people and wounding dozens of others on November 5.

"We still believe that there was only one gunman," Grey also said.

U.S. President Barack Obama called the Fort Hood massacre "a horrific outburst of violence" and said it was "horrifying" that U.S. soldiers should come under fire "on American soil."
