NEW DELHI, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - The number of casualties after a bus fell into a gorge in northern India on Friday has risen to 29 with another 27 injured, a police spokesman told RIA Novosti.
The accident occurred near the Haripur area of the Kangra district in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh. The overcrowded bus plunged into the 30-meter (100-feet) deep gorge when the driver lost control over the vehicle.
Police officials are working at the scene of the accident.
All of the injured passengers have been taken to hospital and those killed in the accident are being identified.
Such accidents are common in the Himalayas due to poorly maintained vehicles and roads. Last year, a bus carrying pilgrims went off a mountain road, killing some 40 people.
