Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Thursday that the ongoing international nuclear talks in Switzerland have been progressing in a constructive atmosphere.

UNITED NATIONS, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Thursday that the ongoing international nuclear talks in Switzerland have been progressing in a constructive atmosphere.

Chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili met outside Geneva with officials from the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany to discuss international concerns over Iran's nuclear power program. The meeting will continue on Friday.

"We believe the atmosphere of the talks in Geneva to be constructive and hope the political will and constructive approach will be shown by other participants," Mottaki told a news conference at the UN headquarters in New York.

The meeting of the 'Iran Six' negotiating countries comes days after news of a second Iranian uranium enrichment site led to calls for harsher sanctions against Tehran. The U.S. and Britain have also refused to rule out military action if Iran refuses to freeze its uranium enrichment program.

Western powers suspect Iran of attempting to build nuclear weapons, but Tehran says its nuclear program is aimed at generating nuclear energy for civilian purposes.

Iran has agreed with the Iran Six to hold another round of talks by the end of October.
