GAZA, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - At least two Palestinians were killed and 12 injured in an overnight Israeli air strike on smuggling tunnels under Gaza's border with Egypt, a Palestinian official said on Wednesday.
Palestinian Health Ministry emergencies chief Muavia Hasanen told RIA Novosti that another five people are trapped underground in a collapsed tunnel. Gaza homes near the site of the attack were also damaged.
Underground tunnels provide the Gaza Strip, blockaded by Israel since Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007, with food, petrol and household appliances. They are also used for weapons smuggling.
Over 120 Palestinians have died in the tunnels in just over two years, according to local medical officials.
Cave-ins, gas used by Egyptian border guards, and Israeli airstrikes are the common causes of death.
