European ambassadors have returned to Honduras to demonstrate support for ongoing talks to reinstate ousted leader Manuel Zelaya, the EU presidency Sweden said on Sunday.

BRUSSELS, September 27 (RIA Novosti) - European ambassadors have returned to Honduras to demonstrate support for ongoing talks to reinstate ousted leader Manuel Zelaya, the EU presidency Sweden said on Sunday.

"This is an important step in support of ongoing talks to restore the constitutional order and democratic process in Honduras, but it does not mean we recognize the de facto government," Sweden said in a statement circulated in Brussels.

The ambassadors left the country after Zelaya was overthrown and exiled following a coup in June. The United States and the European Union have demanded Zelaya be reinstated in office. The de facto government has said the ousted leader should face prosecution for breaking the law by seeking reforms to extend his office.

Zelaya returned home on Monday and has since taken refuge at the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa. Two people were reported killed in a clash between police and Zelaya supporters on Thursday.
