Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi suggested on Wednesday moving the United Nations Headquarters from New York to Beijing or New Delhi.

UN, September 23 (RIA Novosti) - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi suggested on Wednesday moving the United Nations Headquarters from New York to Beijing or New Delhi.

Speaking to the UN General Assembly, Gaddafi said a vote should be held on his proposal.

Colonel Gaddafi, 67, is in New York to participate in the 64th UN General Assembly, which brings together a total of 122 heads of state and government.

"With the UN Headquarters in New York, problems arise with all of the delegations. The Americans place severe restrictions on delegation members' movements, just like they restricted freedom in Guantanamo," Gaddafi said.

The Libyan leader, who has ruled the North African state since 1969, was addressing the UN General Assembly for the first time. This is also his first visit to the U.S.

Gaddafi's speech ran over its allotted limit by around an hour.

Authorities north of New York City have stopped the erection of Gaddafi's Bedouin tent on land owned by U.S. billionaire Donald Trump. City officials argued it violated town regulations.
