Ousted president Manuel Zelaya returned to Honduras on Monday and is currently in the Brazilian embassy in the capital Tegucigalpa

RIO DE JANEIRO, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - Ousted president Manuel Zelaya returned to Honduras on Monday and is currently in the Brazilian embassy in the capital Tegucigalpa, Brazil's foreign minister said on Tuesday.

Zelaya was bundled out of the country on June 28 by the military, acting on instructions from the Supreme Court and parliament, for his efforts to seek an unconstitutional second presidential term. Zelaya was flown to Costa Rica. The de facto Honduran leadership has not been recognized internationally.

The ousted president entered the country "on his own," Celso Amorim told journalists in New York, where is taking part in the 64th session of the UN General Assembly.

He added that the return of the ousted president was a "new step" in negotiations to end the political crisis in the Central American state.

The de facto government has imposed a nationwide curfew.

In a phone conversation, Zelaya told the TeleSur TV that Secretary General of the Organization of American States Jose Miguel Insulza would pay a visit to Tegucigalpa later in the day.

"Insulza will be here tomorrow. He will arrive to support the legitimate president's return to power," he said.

The online version of the Tribuna paper reported that Zelaya saluted from a balcony a crowd of his supporters, who have already gathered near the embassy.

Roberto Micheletti, parliamentary speaker turned interim Honduran leader, continues to dismiss reports on Zelaya's return.
