MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - Two earthquakes, each measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, stroke off Bali and North Maluku on Saturday, injuring at least seven people and sending many others fleeing their homes in panic, the Jakarta Post said.
The meteorology agency said on its website that the epicenter of one of the quakes was 101 km (62.7 miles) southeast of Nusa Dua at a depth of 36 km, the paper reported.
The other quake hit North Maluku with the epicenter located 117 km (72.7 miles) west of Ternate Sea at a depth of 92 kilometers.
In December 2004, an earthquake off the coast of Sumatra in Indonesia triggered a tsunami that killed more than 200,000 people across Asia.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, the world's most seismically active region, registering 6,000-7,000 earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.0 or above annually.
