Russian rhythmic gymnasts win team gold at world championships

Russia won the team gold medal at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships in Japan on Thursday.

MOSCOW, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia won the team gold medal at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships in Japan on Thursday.

The team of Evgeniya Kanaeva, Olga Kapranova, Daria Kondakova and Daria Dmitrieva received 282.175 points. Belarus finished second with 262.825 points while Azerbaijan won the bronze with 258.525 points.

The Russian team tops the medal table having won five gold medals out of five. Olympic champion Kanaeva completed her sweep on Thursday, adding the ball and ribbon events to the hoop and rope gold medals she won on Tuesday.

A total of 156 gymnasts from 50 countries participate in the championship that includes competitions in individual rope, hoop, ball and ribbon events as well as team and individual all-around competitions.

The gymnasts will be bidding for more gold on Friday in the individual all-around event.
