SARAJEVO, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - Serbian authorities have detained five people suspected of negligence that led to a series of explosions, killing at least seven people at an ammunition factory in central Serbia, Tanjug news agency reported on Saturday.

At least four blasts occurred around 10:00 p.m. (20:00 GMT) on Thursday in the town of Uzice, about 150 kilometers (95 miles) southwest of the capital, Belgrade. Another 14 individuals were injured during the blasts at the factory. Around 100 people were at the factory when the blasts occurred.

"The reason for the blast was human factor. On the basis of investigation results, five workers have been detained for breaching safety regulations," Tanjug quoted Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic as saying.

Dacic said the workers "did not follow appropriate safety measures and did not follow instructions while working with gun powder that led to the deaths of people and destroyed property." According to investigations, all of the victims died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Prvi Partizan factory employs some 600 people and has produced ammunition for nearly 80 years for the Serbian military and police, as well as for export.
