ST. PETERSBURG, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - Ford Russia is to suspend production at its plant in Vsevolozhsk in the country's northwest from August 31 through September 11 amid falling domestic sales, a company spokesperson said on Friday.
The carmaker is also being forced to adjust production capacity as demand for new cars falls amid the global downturn, Yekaterina Kulinenko explained, adding that workers will receive two thirds of their wages while the plant is idle.
This will be the fourth time the company has suspended production at Vsevolozhsk this year.
The Ford factory near Russia's second city produces Ford Focus and Mondeo models. The plant, which was opened in summer 2002, employs about 2,000 workers.
