KIEV, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Most Ukrainians want better relations with Russia, but would not want a single currency or unification of state institutions, Ukraine's UNIAN news agency cited a recent survey as saying.
Most Ukrainians (70.2%) have a favorable attitude to Russia, of whom 22.9% are "very positive", according to the poll, conducted by the Gorshenin Institute of Management Issues on August 10-18.
An "unfavorable opinion" on Russia was expressed by 22.1% of respondents, of whom 10.1% had a "very unfavorable opinion".
Only 7.7% of those questioned had "no opinion" on their eastern neighbor, and 0.2% were undecided.
Most respondents, 67.4%, support the current visa-free travel regime between the countries as a positive factor in relations, up from 62% in 2007.
Only 13.7% said they would like the countries to have a common foreign policy (13.1% in 2007), 9.3% favored a common currency (down from 10.44% in 2007), and 8.1% wanted a common legal system (4.12% in 2007). Only 5.1% would want a shared military (5.72% in 2007).
One in 10 Ukrainians (10.2% of respondents, compared with 9.64% in 2007), consider any rapprochement "unfavorable".
Around 2000 people aged 18 and over took part in the survey in 160 locations. The statistical margin of error is 2.2%.
