Russia condemns terrorist attacks in Baghdad

MOSCOW, August 19 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned on Wednesday a series of terrorist attacks in Baghdad that killed at least 95 and injured more than 560 people.

"We strongly condemn this bloodshed and express our condolences to the relatives of the victims and sympathy to the injured and their families," the ministry said in a statement on its web site.

The attacks began at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday with six explosions in the space of 10 minutes near the Green Zone.

A vehicle exploded outside the Foreign Ministry, not far from the heavily-fortified Green Zone.

Another device exploded close to the Finance Ministry on a road leading into the city and close to a busy market.

Two mortars also landed in the Green Zone.

The assault on the city came a day before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was due to begin and is the deadliest attack since U.S. troops withdrew from urban centers in June.
