MOSCOW, August 15 (RIA Novosti) - Valery Borchin was crowned world champion in the 20 km walk on Saturday, winning Russia's first gold medal of the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Berlin.
The 22-year-old reigning Olympic champion and favorite to win crossed the finishing line in 1:18:41 seconds to claim the title ahead of China's Hao Wang, who took silver in 1:19:06.
Mexico's Eder Sanchez was in third place in 1:19:22
