KIEV, July 5 (RIA Novosti) - Sixty children have been admitted to hospital with intestinal infection in western Ukraine after suffering from food poisoning while on holiday in the Carpathian mountains, local media reported on Sunday.

The Zaxid news website said cited Lvov region health officials as saying the conductor of a train travelling from Uzhhorod, near Slovakia, contacted a medical station in Lvov on Saturday night, reporting a case of mass sickness among the children travelling on the train.

The children, who were heading home to Kiev, disembarked in Lvov for emergency medical attention. A total of 240 children were examined by medics, of whom 60, along with seven adults, were diagnosed with severe intestinal infection and were hospitalized.

At least four of the children are in a serious condition. Local medics say the condition of the other patients is stable.

An investigation into the causes of the infection is ongoing, the report said.
