On July 2, President Dmitry Medvedev visited the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise (Sevmash Shipyard) production association in Severodvinsk and chaired a meeting on the future development of the Russian Navy’s submarine force.
President Medvedev inspected the Sevmash Shipyard waterfront, as well as the Yury Dolgoruky nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, which will be fitted with Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs).
A motor boat with the Russian president onboard approached the nuclear-powered submarine. Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky, Commander of the Russian Navy, told President Medvedev about the ballistic missile submarine, now undergoing a trial run, and upcoming military exercises.
President Dmitry Medvedev said the Admiral Gorshkov air-capable cruiser would be refitted as planned under a contract with the Indian Navy.
The Northern Machine-Building Enterprise (Sevmash Shipyard) production association manufactures warships and submarines for the Russian Navy. Since 1939, the company has built 45 warships and 163 submarines, including 128 nuclear-powered submarines.
