The presidents of Russia and Egypt have signed a strategic partnership treaty to develop cooperation in the military and technical, trade and energy spheres.

CAIRO, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - The presidents of Russia and Egypt have signed a strategic partnership treaty to develop cooperation in the military and technical, trade and energy spheres.

"The sides are developing the traditionally supported military-technical cooperation, taking into consideration common interests and international commitments," the treaty said.

Dmitry Medvedev and Hosni Mubarak said they would urge a simplified trade exchange and would "comprehensively study the issue of establishing a free trade zone between the two states."

Russia and Egypt are also focusing on "infrastructural projects, especially in the spheres of energy, housing construction, transport, communications, tourism, environment protection and industry."

"The sides are also comprehensively working together in international financial, trade-economic and strategic organizations, including the forum of gas exporting countries," the document said, adding that they will also contribute to investment cooperation and joint scientific research in hi-tech and space spheres.

Russia and Egypt also signed several additional agreements.

Medvedev said consultations on a treaty to create free trade and industry zones for Russia in Egypt will be continued.

"We agreed that the talks will continue," he said.
