TEHRAN, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Guardian Council, Iran's top legislative body, will consider on Saturday complaints filed by opposition candidates in last week's disputed presidential election, national media reported.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected on June 12 with 62.63% of the popular vote. However, his opponent, Mir Hossein Mousavi, who gained 33.75% of the vote, and his supporters say the vote count was rigged.

Former prime minister Mousavi claimed victory after the polls closed, and told opposition at demonstrations in Tehran that he was ready for fresh elections. Eight people were shot dead on Monday during street protests.

Mousavi urged his supporters to hold a day of mourning on Thursday for those killed in post-election protests.

A spokesman for the 12-member Guardian Council, made up of senior judges and clerics, said it had started a "careful examination" of around 650 complaints over the election results. The council proposed a limited vote recount on Tuesday to appease protestors, but the offer was rejected.

Britain's Independent newspaper reported on Thursday that opposition activists in Tehran had handed out copies of a secret letter from the Iranian interior minister, Sadeq Mahsuli, to Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, providing proof that that the election was won by Mousavi.

The supreme leader has earlier declared his support for Ahmadinejad, calling him the "elected president." However, Khamenei has not been seen in public since the election.
