NOVOSIBIRSK, May 1 (RIA Novosti) - A drunk female driver sent a text message asking for help after running over a traffic police officer in the western Siberian city of Novosibirsk, a police statement said on Saturday.

The police statement said the accident occurred late Thursday as traffic police carried out document checks on one of the city's central roads.

Eyewitnesses said the 22-year-old female driver, who was driving a red Toyota, slammed into officer Dmitry Chulkov as he stood by the roadside. People ran to try and help Chulkov, a serving police officer of almost 18 years, but he was already dead.

Police checked the woman's cell phone following the accident and found two messages: "Honey, I've killed a cop, forgive me, what should I do?" The reply was "Throw a tantrum say nothing, and don't sign anything."

Police said the woman was three times over the permissible alcohol limit to drive, adding that "prior to the accident the detainee and her friend had drunk six liters of beer and then decided 'to go for a ride at night on the town.'"
