LONDON, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - Most countries are seeing a number of trends that point to elements of economic stabilization, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday.

Medvedev said the G20 summit in London that brought together leaders of developed and emerging economies and international organizations to discuss ways to deal with the crisis was a step forward compared to the gathering in Washington last year.

"I believe the work carried out was crowned with a result. This is a step forward, a step in the right direction," he said, adding that the sides have failed to resolve all issues.

The Russian leader said the G20 will return to discussions of the supra-national currency issue.

"No one counted that we will make decisions on the issue today. The task now is that our national currencies should feel normal, the task is that international reserve currencies should be predictable as well," he said.

Medvedev said the G20 countries should abstain from primitive protectionism blocking world trade.

"Protectionism is a thing harmful to the global economy," he said.

Medvedev said Russia will provide assistance to the economies of countries affected by the global crisis, but did not name exact amounts of the aid.
