MOSCOW, March 5 (RIA Novosti) - Soviet and Russian pop icon Alla Pugachyova has announced her plans to retire after a final tour of Russia and the former U.S.S.R.

"I will not kiss the stage farewell, I am just ending my concert activity as a singer," Pugachyova, who turns 60 next month, told journalists at a RIA Novosti news conference on Thursday.

She said the main reasons for the move were her worsening health and the deteriorating quality of her voice - the result of a number of operations.

"The singer Pugachyova will leave the stage, but will become another Alla Pugachyova, who has a radio station called Radio Alla, and theatre and cinema activities," she said.

The singer also told journalists that she was planning to publish her memoirs in the near future and also release a photo album on March 8 - International Women's Day.

"This album will remind everyone of who I was and who I have become," she said.

In 1991, just a day before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Pugachyova became the last person to be awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR. She has not yet however received the equivalent Russian honor.

In 1997, Pugachyova represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin with the song "Primadonna," but came only 15th.

The pop singer, who owns a line of perfume called Alla, as well as the Alla Pugachyova shoe line, first announced her retirement plans some 10 years ago.

Pugachyova, currently divorced, has been married four times and is the mother of Kristina Orbakaite - now herself also a Russian pop star.
