South Africa is set to host the 2010 World Cup, the first time the event has ever been awarded to an African country. The side is currently managed by Brazilian coach Joel Santana. The team recently lost 2-0 at home to Chile, the friendly defeat coming after a run of five straight wins.
"I understand that there are a lot of rumors flying around in the close season. But I have already said that I will take a break and get my breath back. After that, we'll see," Gazzayev told the Sport Den za Dnyem website.
Gazzayev, 54, stepped down as coach of CSKA in November at the end of the Russian season, after taking the former Red Army side to 2nd place in the Russian Premier League. He is the only Russian trainer ever to have won a European trophy, lifting the UEFA Cup with CSKA in 2005.
There have also been rumors in the Russian media that Gazzayev could be offered the position of Russian national coach if Guus Hiddink prolongs his stay at Chelsea. Hiddink, who has trained Russian since July 2006, has been appointed coach at Stamford Bridge until mid-May and the end of the English season. He will combine the post with his position as Russia's trainer.
